Method
MATERIALS
- Plastic Container (tank)
- Plastic or paper straws (pipes)
- Aluminium cooking tray (shed roof)
- Box (shed walls)
- Metal & plastic gauze (filter)
- Hose on mist setting (rain)
- Also scissors, glue, Stanley knife and water
CREATE ROOF, GUTTER & DOWNPIPE
- Create guttering effect by manipulating edge of Aluminium cooking tray.
- Cut 4 to 6, 5mm snips evenly around the top of the straw.
- Splay the top of the straw.
- Make a hole in the tin "gutter" and poke the straw through.
- Glue down the splayed edges of the straw so it doesn't fall through
- Cut straw to appropriate length.
CREATE TANK AND PIPES
- Using scissors or Stanley knife create small hole in the bottom of the container.
- Cut 4 to 6, 5mm snips evenly around the top of another straw.
- Splay the top of the straw.
- Put straw in hole and glue splayed straw to create the water outlet.
- Cut another hole in the top.
- Repeat steps 2,3 and 4 to create the overflow pipe.
- Cut the edge of the container lid off to create the inlet.
- Cut a 2cm wedge off the container to create the filter angle.
- Fix the gauze with glue or elastic to create the filter and place the lid on top.
COMBINE & TEST
- Place roof with downpipe on the box.
- Place the 'tank' under the 'gutter downpipe.'
- Clamp 'outlet' shut with fingers.
- spray the roof with the hose.
- Slowly release fingers on outlet for water use.
